Imagine a Door..
On this door is a sign that states: “Caregiving Information in Here”. You expect a small file box inside this dinky little closet. You think – How hard could Care-giving be? You open that door assuming something manageable but once you look inside you gasp, the information fills a football stadium, many times over. It’s undeniably bigger than you and most everyone else has ever imagined.
The part no one confesses is the information and skills for Caregiving is as diverse as all the individual people needing help. Caregiving is a language of its own, with most people not understanding it, until they experience it. That is the problem faced by Caregivers, but once realized we know we must talk with people who understand this unique language, we must seek out other caregivers. We know it’s about talking and listening, and learning, all while moving forward in caring for someone, near and dear to our heart.
The true depth of care-giving is selfless, kind, loving, worrisome, unrelenting, persistent, exhausting, and also joyous, heartfelt, tender, profound, truthful, and final. Yes, final.
As caregivers we learn together, we cry together, and we say goodbye to the ones we love, together.
